This week, you have to make some important decisions in regard to your definition essay. Your task here is to state what your approach will be and why you have chose that approach, what your motif will be and why you have chosen that motif, and what your songs will be and why you have chosen those songs. This is going to take some careful consideration, so think carefully about how you want to define yourself.

The song should be related to your approach the lyrics have to show a part in the song that’s helps you relate to a person of thing.
DeleteThis is a little difficult in finding song lyrics to match everything... i still don't fully understand the concept of this essay but I'm going to give it a shot. My approach is my Family members, Mom, Dad, Brother, Sister, and Half brother. My motif is comparing all of them to different baseball pitch, such as Two-seam fast baseball for my Mother representing reliable. Four-seam Fastball for my brother also representing reliable but not as effective. Curveball for my father representing wild pitch but effective when thrown correctly. Change up for my sister representing gently and easy going. and Knuckle ball for my half brother representing not always a safe pitch cause it is difficult to predict. (never around).song lyrics i have chosen are from Blink 182, Mac Miller, Everclear, and jack johnson
ReplyDeleteAdam, I think you are at a good start. Also, I agree that choosing lyrics to fit with the essay is difficult. I had to spend time brainstorming all the songs that I can think of and what songs that can fit in the topic of my essay. I am glad that you have chosen something that you are familiar with, instead of something that you are not familiar with.

What really helped me was using the internet for songs relating to your topic. It helped me think of songs that I prodbably wouldn't have before. So maybe try that! As far as your topics and everything your on the right track it seems like.

I chose to define myself in terms of what I value in life. My motif is an ice cream sundae because it is my favorite dessert and think it will fit well in my essay. Besides choosing motifs, I also was choosing lyrics to represent the different values. I will be using the following lyrics in my essay: What a Wonderful Wolrd by Louis Armstrong,Center of My Life by Hillsong United, We are Family by Pointer Sisters, and Heal the World" by Michael Jackson. I chose these lyrics because they fit well into my essay and I have heard of these lyrics on radio and television. In addition, I want to choose lyrics that I am familiar with, instead of something straight from a book or website.

Sounds like you have a great motif and your approach. For your ice cream sundaes are you doing to have a different flavors for your relationships? That's great you have song lyrics for your paper. I didn't think about songs that they played on the stations that is a great idea. I wish I that about that since I listen to the radio all the time. For me finding songs I went on a Web sites and I finally decided what songs I'll be using to define who I am today.
DeleteMy approach is 5 events that have taken place in my life. The reason I chose to focus on the events is the fact that they are the very things that have made me take different routes in life or molded me into the person i've become today. My Motif is different looks of 'Eyes.' I have chosen my motif to be the different emotions of an eye because that is one thing that I am insecure about.

I had a question because I was confused about the motif. Im going to use sunflowers but I wasnt sure if im describing 5 different flowers or just focusing on 5 different parts of the sunflower. Like your different looks of the eye that your using for your motif. Are you doing 5 different looks?
DeleteBrittney I was confused with the same quetions for the motif but I think you can use it both ways. like you said five different parts of the sun flower or five different flowers i believe both work.
DeleteIm super-late on this blog. Im doing the different looks of the eye. You can say "eye emotions." For example, angry eyes, sad eyes or blind eye. Im not sure if it was creative or out of context. lol:)

My approach is going to be 5 of my goals in life. I think these are very important to me because they are things that have never really changed. Ive grown up wanting to succeed with these goals and they have helped shape who I am today. My motif is going to be sunflowers (flowers in general).The sunflower is my favorite and it is bright, feminine, and elegant.I think that is something that can relate to my goals. The 5 songs that I hose are (Frank Sinatra- Love & marriage) – (chuck wicks- Stealing Cinderella)-(Mercy Me- I can only Imagine)-(The Alan Parson Project- Old and Wise)-(Bobby McFerrin- Don’t worry Be happy). I chose these songs because they prett blatently define what my goals are. The lyrics I chose from these songs fit perfectly.
ReplyDeleteFor this essay I have chosen my motif to be candy, and my approch is based off five realtionships. One is with my mom, the second with my dad third brothers fourth my son and the last one will be my boyfriend.I have not chosen a song for each person yet but i have chosen one for my mom and for my son.
ReplyDeleteFor my son =Sour patch kids becuse like the comerical showed at the age of two he can be the biggest trouble maker but in the end hes super sweet and has such a big heart.

For my mom i chose to do a M&Ms
becuse shes slways there when i need her yet she has a hard shell personality.The song i chose for heris by JACK JOHNSON its always better when were together the lyrics i liked from that song are

I decided to use candy as my motif as well, but I decided to go off by five events of my life. I also only have two songs for the moment I'm having a hard time choosing songs for each approach.

This took me a while to decide what I approach I wanted and I decided to go with events. I decided on 5 events like leaving my family at age 13 to go to Minnesota that would be a sour warhead, Returning to California after 4 years sweet like skittles, First day of college would mystery air heads, first pet rock candy because it’s rough but sweet, and my graduation tootsie pop because it’s rough but once you get to the center its sweet and worth it. My motif is candy because I can relate different flavors like sour, sweet, bitter, etc. Finding a song for each approach is hard for me so far I have chosen song from The Beatles and Imagine Dragon.

I understand what you mean, it was extremely hard for me to decide what my approach was going to be. Sounds like you have a good motif that is all different sorts of candies. Finding the songs for me at first was hard but then I had to really think about what songs I'll be using in my writing and after thinking it for awhile I finally knew what songs I will be using. For me I think this is the hardest assignment I ever had to do in my early college years. But, I'm looking forward hearing what others have written about.
Deletehopefully you can read this....i am doing my essay approach on the 5 events that hinder my relationships. i think this really defines me in a way how i approach relationships.my motif is going to be butterflies. i think the process of a butterfly through metamorphism is similar on how we all grow in love. sometimes good, sometimes bad.the songs i chose take you on a journey through my healing process.

4-stronger- you find out that you can do better alone than miserable
5-miss independent- because its who you become post relationship
I define myself by most of kelly clarkson's albums, because her powerful voice speaks to me in time of healing...

Vanessa, I like your choice of a motif. I think te metamorphism of a butterfly is a great way to explain the different types of relationships you have with people. One person can be the larvae, another person can be the caterpiller, another person can be the cacoon, and the last person can be the butterfly.

My approach is 5 different people in my life. My motif is an English Garden with different flowers. I chose this because having a special relationship with my family is very important to me and they also help me understand life and what it means. They have help me define who I am today. My lyrics are going to be by Savage Garden that going to help me define with the songs I have chosen to write my papers about and they have an amazing songs that will help me understand who I am today.I am looking forward in hearing what others have written about and what inspired them to write their great papers and sharing with the fellow classmates.
